Point Labatt, Calca, Murphys Haystacks – South Australia

There are a few Conservation Parks and tourist attractions within a 50km radius of Streaky Bay. We planned our route to Port Lincoln, so that we could go past Point Labatt Conservation Park and through Calca to Murphys Haystacks.

Point Labatt Conservation Park

Point Labatt was spectacular! The scenery on the way there was beautiful, the water in Baird Bay was perfect turquoise and the cherry on top of the cake were the Sealions we could see from the distance of the lookout. The camera could not capture the beauty!

Calca

Calca District is a ghost town with a couple of old buildings, one of them a lovely stone church.

Murphys Haystacks

Murphys Haystacks was quite an unexpected find for us! I was dubious of it, and the missing apostrophe in the name bothered me to no end on all the maps and road signs!

We showed up having no idea what we were looking for, to find this amazing site with these incredible, massive rock formations, called Inselbergs! There was an honesty box with a reasonable price for a family to go in at $5 to have a walk, or you could stay the night there for $10. There was also an undercover picnic table and a toilet block repurposed from an old water tank.
